COMMUNITY SERVICE INNITIATIVE

A heartwarming visit to the Trinity Children's Centre, to give back to the community and help those in need.

tHE INITIATIVE

It took place on the 20th of May 2019. Just a few hours of our lives, yet in these few hours, contagious laughter of the children fill the cozy little home at the heart of PJ. Grinning from ear to ear, 11 students stood watching, satisfied with what they've accomplished.

It all started with an idea, to bring together a group of architecture students, to see if we would be able to contribute more, and bring happiness to the less fortunate community. The Trinity Children's Centre was chosen for our initiative, and after weeks of preparation and confirmation, we came up with a proposal detailing all of our activities and spending for the event.

Proposal presentation

Marshmallows, newspapers and grey boards. An unlikely trio but these are the materials of our three main activities; marshmallow tower building, a costume designing competition and an introduction to architectural model making competition. The children certainly enjoyed the activities and the endless smiles and laughter reflected their mood. At the end, we were able to present the children with goodie bags and a token of appreciation, for them to remember us by.

Reflection

It was a pleasure to be able to work with the children of the Trinity Community Centre, as challenging as it was to get the activities to run smoothly, the heartfelt enthusiasm of the children made it all worth it. This module opened my eyes to the situation of less fortunate children, neglected or orphaned, in our community. In light of what they have to go through, I feel lucky to be able to enjoy all the privileges and opportunities given to me throughout my life.

I must express my utmost gratitude to Ms Wendy and the children for opening my eyes, and for giving us this opportunity to give back to the less fortunate.
