Architectural design studio i

An exploration of body and self, creating designs with consideration of anthropometry and ergonomics in the design of spaces.

Project 1 : 2  Sides of me  Fragments of self

Design of an abstract form based on 'self', from the exploration and analysis of personality, hobbies and traits.

Withdrawn yet playful, the form represents two sides of my personality. Stable, focused and uninteresting is expressed with static cubes. Breaking down of my personality results in dynamic interlocking cubes, expressing the playful spirit hiding behind, waiting to be discovered.

Project 2 : Phase to Face  A temporary shelter

Understanding and application of human anthropometry and ergonomics to create a life size temporary shelter.

Constructed to introduce new friends, the facade generates interest, drawing people to the shelter. Striking up a conversation, users find way to connect; leading to further exploration of the shelter. Within the space, embraced within the clutches of nature and the privacy of the shelter, newfound friends can converse in the comfort of the shelter.

Project 3 : A Breath of mindfulness  Dream space for self

The culmination of all lessons of the semester, a dream space situated between two towering cliffs, formed to suite the user's needs.

Breathing, Awareness, Focus. Key elements of meditation, a retreat from stress and distractions. A journey through the spaces fulfills awareness and focus of self, accompanied by the breathing rhythm of the facade. Completing the journey, the user will experience meditation, refreshed and at peace; ready to face new challenges.

A chapter closes, experiences, expectations, failure before success. Lessons learned as more challenges beckons, as the journey to Studio II awaits.
